Body colour in Purple-Black, Purple and
Purple-Red etc.
Sometime we can
also find special
individual land hermit crab in red colour.
There are many light colour granule / spot on their body.
Juvenile is similar to adult.

Left claw is extremely larger than right
claw.
The backside of the large claw just like a curve (Red
circle).
There are no
ridge (////) on the upper part of the big claw (Black
circle).
No hair on the inside part of big claw
but some hair on the inside part of small claw.

Abdomen is quite short and fat (Red
circle).
C. brevimanus is the most largest species among land hermit
crab (except Birgus latro). In the
wild, we usually find that C. brevinmanus live in a small
shell (the below 2 picture), luckily their abdomen is short
so that they can live in a small shell. But because of their
large size, this may be a reason that why we can find many
C. brevimanus have no shell and can only use plastic cap or
other rubbish as their shell. (just
my opinion)

Taiwanese
subdivide C. brevimanus into two:
1)短掌(巴掌)陸寄居蟹:
The backside of the large claw just like a curve,
surface of it is smooth, walking legs are strong.
2)短腕陸寄居蟹:
Large claw is rather long and
oval-shaped, there are many
granule / spot on the surface.
