According to the
information that posted before, juvenile tend to white/light
pink in colour. Orange / red colour will become much more when they
grow. According to the photos form Database of Crustacea (Decapoda,
Stomatopoda), the below photos are considered to be the
juvenile of C. perlatus.
According to the
information from a Taiwan friend, juvenile of C. perlatus is
not white in colour, about 90% of juvenile is in orange /
red colour (just like adult crabs), 10% of juvenile have
some white band on the legs and claws (upper part is orange
/ red , lower part is white). This description
seems do not match that photos
from Database of Crustacea (Decapoda, Stomatopoda)
And when we look
at the belows photo, we can find that even the juvenile is
very small in size, their body colour is same as adult one.
Is the juvenile
of C. perlatus really change from white to orange / red
colour or they are originally in orange / red colour as
adult? Or in fact the photos from
Database of Crustacea (Decapoda, Stomatopoda)
in fact is the species of
C. pseudorugosus?
There is no more information until now.
After discuss
with the members of
Hermit Crab Association,
we think that there may be 2
difficult growing process, this depends on different
location which they live and what they eat.
