*Remark

When Akira Asakura writing the article , he asked Yukio Nakasone about how to name this species. As the shield of this species is very beautiful, from red to orange colour, just like the sky at sunrise, so he name this specis as "Sunrise land hermit crab."

According to the article , Yukio Nakasone think that this species are similar to C.rugosus. The main different between this 2 species is male sexual tube. For Sunrise land hermit crab, the right sexual tube is distinctly longer then the left one, while in a great number of C.rugosus, the right sexual tube is almost equal in length to the left, or the right is slightly longer then the left.

But if we only see their body colour, they are just similar to juvenile C. perlatus which with special colour. Until now, there is no more information to show that if this species is in fact misunderstood from the juvenile of C. perlatus.

The following species information quote from below 2 articles:

①Akira Asakura (Natural History Museum and Institute, Chiba), Recent topics on taxonomy of hermit crabs from Japanese waters - Family Coenobitidae
Yukio Nakasone, Land Hermit Crabs from the Ryukyus, Japan, with a Description of a New Species from the Philippines (Crustacea, Decapoda, Coenobitidae)

 Body Colour / Spot

Shield colour from red to orange.

According to the article , small individuals with a broad dark brown transverse band at anterior one-third of shield and two longitudinal stripes of the same colour on posterior portion. Large individuals sometimes with two dark brown patches behind anterior margin of shield.

Left claw is larger than right claw. There are some hair on the inside part of both claws. There are 7~10 ridge (////) on the upper part of the big claw. Palm of big claw is nearly straight (below red line) in distal half and not four-cornered in an external form (as C.rugosus).

According to the article , Palm of big claw with a longitudinal white stripe on middle portion and the other part dark-brownish.

3rd left Walking legs is flatten. According to the article , Dactylus of 2nd left and 3rd left legs each with a dark brown patch at proximal part. Propodus of 3rd left legs with a broad dark brown band on middle portion, propodus of other legs with white band at distal one-fourth, other area dark-brownish. carpus 1st and 3rd legs with a longitudinal dark brown stripe, merus with dark brown ring.

According to the articles of Akira Asakura (Japan Natural History Museum and Institute, CHiba) and Yukio Nakasone (University of the Ryukyus), outer surface of propodus of left 3rd leg separated from dorsal surface by a well-marked longitudinal crest.

But until now, there is no more information to show that if this species is in fact misunderstood from the juvenile of C. perlatus.
